There’s a small wizard standing between you and a rather unpleasant slime invasion. He’s got a staff, a handful of magical tricks and, hopefully, enough sense to build some decent defences before the next wave arrives.

The Abjuration Stand is now available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One for £8.39, with Xbox Play Anywhere support included.

Published by Brainium Games and developed by Huge Pixel, this colourful 2D tower defence game puts you directly into the action. You’re not simply sitting back and watching your defences do the hard work either – you’re out there fighting alongside them.

At A Glance

  • Game: The Abjuration Stand
  • Developer: Huge Pixel
  • Publisher: Brainium Games
  • Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Play Anywhere
  • Price: £8.39
  • Genre: 2D Tower Defence / Survival

A Wizard, A Staff And A Whole Lot Of Slimes

The idea is simple enough: hold your position while waves of monsters attempt to overrun the path. You’ll need to aim and fire your staff at approaching enemies, but there’s plenty of defensive construction to think about at the same time.

Magical orbs can be placed to attack automatically, while swords and additional staffs help cover the battlefield. Crystals act as your main resource, so deciding where to spend them is an important part of building an effective setup. Cheap early defences might get you through the opening assaults, but tougher waves will demand something a little more impressive.

Build, Upgrade And Hold The Line

Survive each wave and you’ll get to choose upgrades that remain active for the rest of your run. These include increased staff damage, faster attacks, additional health and even automatic crystal throwing. There are also different locations to defend, with mountains, graveyards and forest clearings providing the backdrop to the growing monster hordes.

And don’t assume everything will politely follow the road. Flying enemies can bypass ground-based defences, giving you another problem to deal with as the attacks become more intense.

Can You Stand Your Ground?

With its hand-drawn cartoon presentation, straightforward tower defence mechanics and the added twist of controlling the wizard yourself, The Abjuration Stand offers a slightly different spin on the genre. At £8.39 from the Xbox Store, it could be a fun little challenge for anyone who enjoys building defences while keeping busy on the battlefield.

Just don’t get too attached to your carefully arranged magical arsenal. Those slimes aren’t going to show it any respect.
