José the Cat has traded the comfortable life for something a little more dangerous: a jeep, a jungle full of hazards and some rather questionable road conditions.

Cat on the Jungle Path is out now on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC, with three separate versions available for £4.19 each on the Xbox Store. This latest puzzle outing from Afil Games asks players to build a safe route through the wilderness before taking to the wheel.

At A Glance

  • Game: Cat on the Jungle Path
  • Developer: Afil Games
  • Publisher: Afil Games
  • Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC
  • Price: £4.19 (Xbox Store)
  • Genre: Puzzle game

First Build The Road, Then Drive It

The central idea is a clever mix of route planning and driving. Each level is laid out on a hexagonal grid, with players able to move and rotate path tiles to create a route from José’s starting point to the destination.

That planning stage is important, because the wilderness isn’t exactly welcoming. Dangerous geysers can block the way, while fragile paths need to be approached with care. Players must study the board, work out where the available tiles belong and consider how the hazards might affect the journey before setting off.

Then comes the slightly more frantic part. Once José gets behind the wheel, you’ll need to control the jeep’s acceleration and braking, timing movements to avoid erupting geysers and making sure fragile sections don’t give way beneath you. A route that looks perfect on paper might not be quite so straightforward when you’re actually driving it.

30 Levels Across Three Biomes

Cat on the Jungle Path offers 30 levels spread across three environments: Open Fields, Dense Forest and Rocky Terrain. Each brings its own layouts and strategic challenges, with optional items to collect for anyone keen to explore beyond the most direct route.

Hints are available if a particular puzzle proves stubborn, while the restart option makes it easy to rethink a failed attempt. There’s room to experiment, then, whether you’re trying to find a more efficient route or simply working out how to get José past the next obstacle in one piece.

Our Verdict On Cat On The Jungle Path

We’ve already taken José’s latest adventure for a spin in our Cat on the Jungle Path review, awarding it 3/5.

We appreciated Afil Games trying something different, particularly its willingness to experiment with new ideas at an accessible price. However, we also found the combination of careful path-building and speed-based driving a little awkward, with the two mechanics not always working together as smoothly as they might.

There’s certainly a different idea here from the usual tile-based puzzle outing, and anyone curious about Afil Games’ latest experiment can pick it up for £4.19 from the Xbox Store, optimised for Xbox Series X|S, playable on Xbox One, or even for good old Windows PC.

Just don’t expect every jungle journey to be a smooth one.
