Construction work is normally supposed to involve hard hats, safety checks and people who know what they’re doing. Dumb Ways to Build has clearly decided that all three are optional.
Launching alongside Deconstruction Simulator, and now available on Xbox Series X|S for £6.69, this physics-based co-op game drops up to four players into Dumbville’s most dangerously incompetent construction crew.
The objective is to build platforms, solve challenges and escape each jobsite alive. Whether that last part is actually achievable is another matter entirely.

Build It, Break It, Survive It
Dumb Ways to Build gives you a collection of construction tools and basically asks you to figure out how to use them without getting yourself killed. Grab, rotate and throw objects around the environment to create makeshift bridges, ramps and platforms, then use your nail gun to hold your questionable engineering together. Everything is governed by physics, so even the best-laid plans can go spectacularly wrong.
And that’s before your friends get involved. See, up to four players can work together online, with proximity chat allowing you to coordinate your increasingly desperate construction efforts. There’s also Solo Play if you’d rather take responsibility for your own inevitable mistakes.
Your tool belt contains everything from useful construction hardware to rather less sensible options, and there’s always the temptation to use it to help – or hinder – your fellow Beans. After all, a sledgehammer might be exactly what you need to move a steel beam. It might also be exactly what you need to launch your mate off a roof.
The Jobs Are Getting Dangerous
The main challenges come through Crisis Jobs, which send your crew into hazardous locations packed with traps, secrets and different problems to solve.
Getting through them requires cooperation and a bit of creativity, with successful builders able to unlock cosmetics and additional challenge modes along the way. But of course, there’s plenty of scope for things to go wrong. And we’d fully expect MANY things to go wrong.
So Many Dumb Ways To Die
At £6.69 from the Xbox Store, Dumb Ways to Build looks like a particularly easy game to recommend to a group of friends who enjoy watching carefully constructed plans collapse within seconds.
And you may wish to call back onto that one golden rule of Dumbville construction: if everyone survives, you probably weren’t having enough fun. Or something like that!
