With the early access line crossed, Stars Reach is now in a race to build out an appealing MMORPG before interest and funds fall away. And to the team’s credit, it’s certainly working hard to accomplish that goal, bringing updates to bear such as 8.5’s Ground Control.
Thursday’s patch improves Stars Reach’s performance in several areas while retaining player items that went mysteriously missing between game sessions. There’s a full space map available to view, a more informative marketplace, additional bank options such as filtering and sorting, less chance of instant death while bumping up against low clearance, and more color variations for Terran characters.
The devs also changed the game to make housing one of the first things you can access: “We’ve heard the ask from players to get to homesteading more quickly, so we decided to just make availability very easy for now. This may well change in the future, but what the heck, it’s early days!”

If this isn’t a sign that the studio is devoted to Stars Reach’s future, then take Raph Koster’s words when asked about whether the game is going to be canceled. In a post on Reddit, the lead dev replied, “No, there is no announcement on sunsetting because we are not in that position at the moment. If we were, we would definitely say so. We have pushed out I think eight updates since EA and continue to work on more. Stability and perf are miles better than they were even a week ago. Players gave us a pretty clear to-do list with reviews and comments and we are working through them.”
